UNIMED Receives MDCN Accreditation for MBBS and BDS


University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo has secured accreditation for its MBBS and BDS programmes.

This accreditation is coming barely two years after the establishment of the first medical science university in the country.

Gunmen Attack TV Station In Kabul killed about 5 people


A private television station in the Afghan capital on Tuesday came under attack by a number of gunmen who broke into the building after an explosion, officials said. A tweet from the station’s Twitter account said staffers reported several casualties inside the building and staff members reached by telephone said between two and five people appeared to have been killed.

Checkout list of 500 Lagos youths who renounced cultism


No fewer than 500 youths in Ijede Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos, yesterday, voluntarily renounced their membership of various cult groups in the area.

They included cultists from Aiye, Eiye, Buccaneer, and KK among others. The youths, whose ages are between 17 and 35, submitted weapons that have been in their custody to the Lagos State Police Command. The weapons, which were displayed at the Ijede LCDA hall included pump action rifles, AK-47 rifles, locally-made guns and single-barrelled guns. Also displayed were cartridges of various types as well as axes and machetes.

Slaven Bilic was fired as manager of West Ham on Monday after the team dropped into the Premier League’s relegation zone following another big loss.

Bilic had acknowledged his position was precarious after the 4-1 home loss to Liverpool on Saturday. “Disappointed, but not in the club. I expected it,” Bilic said outside the West Ham’s training ground after meeting with members of the club’s board. “It’s a very logical move.”

We have lost as much as 127billion to cybercrime - Saraki


The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, says Nigeria has lost about N127 billion to cybercrime. He made this known at Nigeria’s first Legislative Stakeholders Conference on ICT and Cyber security on Monday in Abuja.

Saraki, who was represented by Senate Minority Whip Sen. Philip Aduda Saraki did not, however, specify the period within which the nation lost such an amount to cyber crime. He said the loss was indicative of the hole created in the economy by cyber crime amounting to 0.08 per cent of the Gross Domestic product (GDP. “It is indeed ironic that while internet penetration in Nigeria is tentative at best, hovering at just over the 90 million people mark, a percentage of 47.7 per cent, internet-facilitated crime seems to be growing. “Our cyber borders are very porous, indeed,” Saraki said.

Lagos State Government ready to apprehend all Tax defaulters


The Lagos State Government on Monday directed all its revenue agencies to ensure prompt payment of taxes and also commence enforcement of payment by all tax defaulters with immediate effect. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, in a statement, lamented that many residents were not fulfilling their civic obligation of paying their taxes and that the prevailing situation would adversely affect government’s infrastructural renewal drive currently ongoing across the State. Ayorinde therefore said that Government had concluded plans to go all out to enforce the tax laws so as to bring more Lagosians into the tax net.

Popular ponzi scheme MMM has officially announced a “RESTART” of the system, leaving many Nigerian participants wailing with thousands and millions on Naira trapped in the scheme.

In a message posted on the home page of participants Saturday morning, the scheme said that it had struggled to stay afloat after going on a break in Dec. 2016 but had been forced to do a system restart. Professor Wole Soyinka, the Nobel Laureate said he ought to have died going by his lifestyle.

It was the shocking response by the 83 year-old professor of literature and political activist to a question by the Financial Times of London, on how long he intends to live.

“By all logic I should not be alive right now because of my lifestyle,” he replied. “I flout everything they teach at medical school, including the fact that I don’t drink water. I eat only when I want to. I don’t obey the rules of cholesterol,” he added during the conversation with David Pilling, the FT Africa editor, at the Pescatori restaurant in west London.
